Crafts

Why Another Craft Blog?

ESD Crafts is my venture into writing and sharing help, advice, ideas and images about crafts.

I already make items and post pictures of them to Instagram, Facebook and to my other websites. and I sell many of the items I make at markets, fairs and online.

But the process of crafting and what it actually means fascinates me too.

For instance:
‘What exactly is a craft?’

To give one of several examples, writing is definitely a craft – a good writer is often considered to be skilled at their craft.

But when you think about crafts, or look for pictures about crafting, you most often find images of painters, crocheters, knitters, quilters, etc…

These are all absolutely great crafts, and they take skill.
But in today’s World, where everything appears to be identified into certain brackets regarding ‘worth’, those who craft are often seen as ‘hobbyists only’.

Now using your skills to craft can, and often is, a very enjoyable hobby (and many find this a way of relaxing too). But in today’s tight economic times, many crafters are working away diligently in their homes or even garden sheds making craft items to sell so that they can pay the rent and put food on the table.

So with this in mind, I hope that in time ESD Crafts will be the place you can go to for advice which will help you with your craft hobby, but also offer advice to help you make a living from your craft skills.

So I will be looking at subjects like:

  • Where to get the most helpful advice when beginning a new craft.
  • How to troubleshoot when things go wrong.
  • Where are the best places to showcase your crafts.
  • Where to sell your craft items.

And loads of other questions which I am sure I will encounter as I go along.

And most of all – if the item you make takes skill to produce and it’s produced by you, then it’s a craft as far as I am concerned.

So there will be posts, for instance, on writing as well as painting; on re-making/re-designing as well as making; and on marketing as well as producing.

Because, as the picture above by “My Life Through A Lens” on Unsplash says, ‘Together We Create’ and I hope I can help us all with that.

It’s very early days, but after writing this post, I feel even more excited about developing this blog!
So don’t forget to look out for more posts very soon!
